Week 2: What is text and media in Semiotic?
According to my understanding, text in semiotic means a message that has been recorded in some kind of way. For an example, messages that are conveyed in writing, audio or video recording are called text in semiotic. Text can also be found in any medium; verbal, non-verbal or both. Besides that, collections of signs such as words, images, sounds or gestures in a particular medium is also called a text.
Media in semiotic means a medium that is used to communicate a message. It is used in many ways and categories such as speech and writing, print, and broadcasting or in mass media (television, radio, newspaper, magazine and etc..). In daily communication between humans, medium is refer to telephones, letter, fax, e-mail and video conferencing. Some theorist classify media according to the channels involved (visual, auditory, tactile and etc..). Every medium has its restriction from the channels it utilizes. For an example, we cant express everything in language or in the words. Moreover, some kind of experience such as taste and touch cannot be represented through conventional media at all.

From here i got to know that medium is involved in any kind of ways in term of semiotics.A text is a place where there a involving communication between the receiver and also sender.For and examples,when sender send a text message to the receiver,the receiver received and read the message that wrote by the sender so from this it shows the communication are involved between them.a text can be in any kind of form.

ya i agree about the media... as we know the term media also refers more widely to all those thing which are channels for communicating something.
ReplyDeleteYes i agree with that statement, MEDIA refers to various means of communication.Media is a Medium is a tool of communication. We using it in our daily life to communicate with people. Media also can be tell as a mass media whereby we communicate with a large number of people, it includes TV, Newspaper and internet. It makes human life more easier to communicate and get know about other things that's happening through out this world .
